I've been honored to do some calligraphy for the Parisian luxury skin and beauty line, Darphin. Here's some images of the latest displays and advertisements we've done together that are currently on display in shops across the world.
Sierra & Juliet (the Poppies & Posies team) kept it simple, but of course it was elegant and dreamy. They sourced all the flowers on site and added these beautiful blue tablecloths to highlight the gold place cards and brilliant bougainvillea blossoms. And I wrote the calligraphy for all the guest names.

This wedding was one of my best projects of 2013. And thanks to a huge spread in the current issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, I can now share these gorgeous images with you, all shot by Jen Huang.
Sierra (of Poppies & Posies floral and event design) and Michael (of Michael Stuart Catering) are good friends of mine and cherished event-world colleagues. They were married last February in Dominica, Costa Rica, a place dear to both of them and invited a small group of close friends and family to join them for a week.
It called for a unique invitation -- less of a classic announcement, and more of a welcoming experience to kick off everyone's anticipation for the special trip.
Sierra gave me free reign with the concept, so what developed was this kit of goodies and information, each piece created just for what we named "A Field Guide." It opened as a box, with all the trip essentials pinned artfully inside.
The invitation elements:
- Invitation -- gold engraving on a dark steel grey stock, listed the coordinates and key details
- Map of the region -- hand-illustrated and watercolored, then folded square and stamped with their personalized crest
- Mini compass
- Route details -- a roll-out illustrated list of each of the steps that would lead them to a final destination, jumping in the pool at the private villa
(continued in next photo)
- Field Notes pencil
- Essential (and silly) Spanish language guide -- letterpress printed on soft ivory stock with a dusty rose ink
- Blank pocket notebook -- illustrated with tropical plants and bougainvillea and printed just for their wedding (now also available in my shop!)
- Tropical spice rub -- seasonings prepared by Michael to get the flavors of the trip going before takeoff

This custom invitation suite was such an exciting process. We were able to combine two printing methods: gold foil for the hand-drawn floret pattern and ivory engraving for the text of the invitation and reply card. So happy with how these came out and excited to now be offering them as a part of our invitation collection.
From the offices of Martha Stewart Weddings, to my own Brooklyn studio, to the floral studio of Poppies & Posies, to several co-hosted workshops: in Portland with Neither Snow and at the letterpress headquarters of Regas New York, I had the pleasure of hosting quite a few calligraphy workshops in 2013 and met lots of lovely folks in the process. Stay tuned for the next series later this spring (subscribe for updates at the bottom of this post).
We created invitations and illustrated table signs for Eve & Nick's wedding on the rooftop terrace at the Gramercy Park Hotel. Great to see it featured on Style Me Pretty this past November! You can view the full gallery there.
Eve writes: "A brunch-themed cocktail hour included egg and cheese crostini, french toast bites, and mimosas, bellinis and Bloody Marys. In lieu of table numbers, we assigned each table a New York City landmark, illustrated and calligraphed by Paperfinger, who also designed our invitations. We set locations based on the guests seated at each table — for example, we sat at the Museum of Natural History table, the New York landmark where we got engaged, and in a winking nod to our sense of humor, we sat the groom’s high school friends, all native New Yorkers, at the Times Square table."
This was one of my favorite new additions to our invitation collection: two variations on the oval watercolor theme, both with custom calligraphy for the full text of the invitation. The menu design mirrors the angled writing as can any other pieces in the invitation suite. This suite was featured in a shoot at the Brooklyn Grange.
This suite with reply card and envelopes starts at $1290 for 100 invitations. Receive a full sample set for $5.
Today is the last day for placing orders on the Paperfinger Shop in time for Dec 24th delivery.
We have some great last minute wrapping supplies, stocking stuffers and special gifts! This deadline applies to everything except custom-made goods, but we do have a sweet new e-gift certificate or the classy gift certificate for a custom address stamp.
