I OWE YOU project : socially responsible madras
The IOU Project has an interesting approach to fair trade fashion. The idea is that they responsibly source handwoven fabrics from weavers and artisans in India who are paid above average wages for their work. IOU operates in resistance to the takeover of machine-made cloth and celebrates the traditions of hand loom weaving in India. Each weaver makes a small amount of unique fabric which is then assembled and designed by different teams of European craftspeople. Each individual item is tracked from the weaver, through the design and assembly process, straight to the online consumer. You can view the timeline of each item on their website.
Prices are reasonable and they ship to the U.S. Shop online or learn more at: iouproject.com
