it rained on stage : pina bausch's "vollmond"

A couple weeks ago I went to a performance of Vollmond (Full Moon), a piece choreographed by the late Pina Bausch, which premiered in the US at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It's a rich, rich masterpiece. The movement and dance was gorgeous and sweeping and strong and totally awe-inspiring. The production as a whole was like nothing I'd ever imagined. It literally poured rain on set throughout much of the performance and dancers moved, lept, danced and swam through a river that ran across the stage. Yes. A river. The clip below will give you a taste.
