new york public library digital gallery : menu collection
The New York Public Library's Digital Gallery is a massive, free archival resource. Scanned documents, files, maps, books, manuscripts, photos and my recent discovery, historic menus. The Kitchn put me onto this section of the gallery -- beautiful and withered menus that are excellent inspiration and design reference points. They also make for interesting historical records from restaurants, cruise ships, international hotels and private residences in the 19th and early 20th centuries. There could be a great gift in this as well since the NYPL sells prints of all archive images in a range of sizes -- they even offer framing.
