ash hilton : ethical gold
The green event blog, Garden Party, put me on to the craftsmanship of Ash Hilton, who creates ethical gold jewelry. This wedding band, pictured, is an example of the kind of custom work he does from his studio in New Zealand. His father and partner collect washed-up gold on the beaches there and convert it into jewelry. Having just read The Economist's feature on recycling where they stated that a startling quantity of waste is generated in the process of mining enough gold to make just one ring (3 tons, aiy!), I was excited to learn about this alternative. Check out his site on Etsy for beautiful jewels produced in responsible ways.
